CHOOSING THE RIGHT CONNECTION
While universities and colleges organize career fairs, only a few of the students attend. Some are lucky to have internships and employment applications communicated to them by careers office. But we have an awful thing that kills people ‘’CONNECTION” Many students did not put maximum efforts even to apply for a job as they assumed their generous friends and Family members would get them to the right jobs.
Hello, it’s high time you wake up and get out of your comfort zone. Those people will not get you anywhere. They are good in promising you that they would take you to another world. This person will not even get you an internship leave alone a job. The moment you hand over you CV to them, the chances of looking at it are close to zero, and you automatically get out of their mind. If you don’t have your family businesses, just forget about that friend or relative getting you to that big office. While schooling, you have all the privilege to make connections and network. The various functions at campus and colleges are to help us create this networks for ourselves. People start applying for jobs one year before clearing school while you sit there expecting relatives contribute to getting a job. Securing a job just seems insane to me, I know people whose friends and families have golden positions in offices but three years down the line they are still jobless. The greatest number of people with great jobs now started worrying while still on campus as they were concerned where to go after school as they didn’t know anyone.
WHAT’S THE ESSENCE
Connections, or networking, is more significant than ever because, in this changing economic times, there are so many applicants that potential employers don’t have a chance to perform the culling and elimination task as it used to be. Employers are less inclined in giving an employee an opportunity in their company without some endorsement from an associate or a colleague.
Networking is not about knowing higher people on campus or having a close relative, and it is about reaching the right person. Effective networking is not being in touch with the company directly, we have placement companies try them. This will make you not focus on specific companies as doing so makes you lose on a big chance of employment.
In every situation, the best thing is to try; you get to gain more while taking every opportunity rather than ignoring an opportunity. Everyone can succeed in achieving something provided there are some efforts involved. From WEAC, it’s bye bye, share and leave a comment 🙂 .
